That's Me!
Here are some weightlifting pictures, definitely not the most photogenic sport to say the least!
Whenever someone asked me 'what do you want to be when you grow up?' I had an answer, maybe not the answer that anyone expected but I had one. My answer was "I want to be a horseback- riding, personal training life guard that paints on the beach", and while I have explored all of those things, as I grew up I knew that I could at least make one of those items a reality and that was personal training.
I played field hockey in high school and ran on my own time, trained a bit for strength and threw some yoga in there as well. If you couldn't tell already, my interests and hobbies varied a lot and always kept me busy.
As a college student I wanted to stay in shape, get strong and do something I loved as well as something that would relieve stress and I found the thing that crossed off all of those requirements in the campus gym. From the elliptical to the treadmill, cable machines to the squat rack I tried it all. I found my niche in weightlifting and then began the learning experience of Olympic Weightlifting and spent a summer learning the technique through a group training class.
I started working in a health club and fell in love with that atmosphere, everyone came in there and wanted to feel better and improve themselves in all different ways whether it was growing their strength, getting in touch with their body in a yoga session, letting go of some pent up energy in a dance class or feeling the burn in a cycling class. I love seeing people find their niche in the wellness world and wanted to be more involved with that so I started my journey to become a personal trainer.
The Coronavirus pandemic put an unusual twist on this personal training journey- I would have to improvise, learn online and practice training, cueing and making plans for clients without a gym, with minimal equipment and during a time where I can't visit anyone, I can't go in to a fitness class and watch the instructors. I believe that this experience allows me to better understand where you may be coming from- a place of confusion, frustration, determination and curiosity all wrapped up together. The pandemic has also given me the time to hone my craft, to really absorb the information I learned and go through the exercises and assessments myself so I know exactly what to do and apply that to a program.
Overall I am excited for this new journey of spreading my passion and educating others on the benefits of moving and simply getting to know your body and all of it's awesome capabilities. You'd be surprised at all of the things you can do as well as how forgiving your body is when you try these new things.
