Penrith Rugby is seeking a Head Coach for the 2025 Season!
Club History
Founded in 1965, the Penrith Emus have a proud history of participation in Sub-District Rugby, the Shute Shield, and more recently Canberra’s John I Dent Cup. The Emus are focused on rebuilding and returning to rugby in 2025. We aim to participate in the New South Wales Suburban Rugby Union 3rd Division.
Role Purpose
The Head Coach's role will be to develop and implement a coaching strategy for Penrith Rugby that:
enables players to fulfil their potential
delivers consistently high levels of performance
achieves the Club’s target of being in the top half of its nominated competitions
supports the Board’s vision for the Club and its community
Roles and Responsibilities
Coaching Staff
Recruitment and retention of coaches & managers with the Board.
Support and development of coaches
Monitor, review and adapt coaching strategy
Lead end-of-season debrief with coaches, managers and player leadership group
Players
Oversee recruitment and retention of players
Develop and implement the Colts pathway program
Design and agree on broad team selection guidelines
Return from injury and concussion protocols
Communication protocols between coaches and players regarding player movements
Ensuring players back up as replacements for the following game
Ensure player eligibility for finals
Match details and admin
Assist in arranging pre-season trials
Agree on draw times and advise NSWSRU
Advise coaches and players of weekly kick-off times and venues
Liaise with the opposition contact person before each home game
Knowledge and skills desirable
History in coaching players and coaches
Understanding of the technical aspects of coaching
People management skills
Experience at this level or equivalent is highly desirable.
Planning and time management skills.
Demonstrated leadership skills and personality to drive club culture.
IT Competency with programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
Communication and interpersonal skills – both written and oral
Confident public speaker.
Australian resident.
Current Working with Children/ Work with Vulnerable People check.
A current NSW driver's licence.
Position Term:
This is a Fixed Term Contract position for the 2025 rugby season, with a further year option based on performance criteria. You will be required to attend weekend matches, evening training sessions, club and other publicity events, and meetings.
The role will not commence until after the 2024 Sydney Rugby season has been completed, and then at a mutually agreeable time.
