This is a research paper that took the entire course to construct. Utilizing scholarly sources and peer-reviewed articles on feminism and Marxism, this paper analyzes the challenges Betty Boop faced as a "feministic icon" during a period where male misogyny was at an all time high. This paper demonstrates my ability to accurately research a topic, apply that research appropriately so it supports my argument, and articulate the evidence I found in a diplomatic way. Because Betty Boop originated back in the 1930’s, the sources I found were of different years which helped fuel some of the points I was trying to make, such as how feminism and the “male gaze” have evolved over the years. I talked about how the “male gaze” impacted Betty Boop’s overall character purpose
Utilizing scholarly sources and peer-reviewed journals, I wrote this paper to defend the Werewolf’s wife, the Baroness, as she’s depicted to be a bad guy. This piece of work intrigued me because of the hidden messages woven throughout so I wrote the paper based on how masculinity and femininity affected the actions and reactions within the story. I approached the story utilizing different angles because it addressed many issues during that time including but not limited to gender, sexuality, politics, and status. This text relies on a lot of interpreting, such as the title Bisclavret translates to “the werewolf” which alone has a neutral connotation until the end when it’s revealed the werewolf is actually the villain.
This story narrates a mother's experience raising a bi-racial daughter and the effects of that trauma in the future. I researched scholarly articles for information on racial families, historically accurate representations during the time of the story, and the culture of motherhood specifically. I connected these ideas to evidence I see in the world today to help back up my argument as well as provide examples. By incorporating real world connections to the story, I was able to relate the relevance and importance of the issues presented.
This paper was focused on the idea of incorporating ethos, pathos, logos, and mythos. I explained the benefits of using creative writing to help activists express their thoughts and opinions. This assignment helped me to research through a rhetorical lens and look for emotion, logic, and other connections to ground the audience.
