Kehinde Wiley- Strong saturated colors, patterns, florals, blending
Edgar Degas- Subject matter (ballerinas), muted colors, "smudge" technique, occasional outlines
Fred Hatt- lets color of page show through, "squiggles", color blocking, saturation
Use a white charcoal pencil, pencil, or white oil pastel to sketch your figure on final paper. Draw the outline of your person. Include their hair, clothing and accessories
Begin filling in with chalk or Oil pastel (DON'T MIX THEM). You may use both mediums but in separate areas of your composition. Example: Oil pastel for the figure, chalk pastel for the background. Consider how your mentor artist makes marks

Mentor artist- (15 points)
Shows attempt of utilizing a mark making technique from a mentor artist.
Kehinde Wiley- incorporating patterns, vibrant colors
Edgar Degas- Lines and minor dark outlines, muted colors
Fred Hatt- expressive lines, letting page color show through, squiggly details and bright colors
Color use - analogous, complimentary, monotone, or “realistic” colors as presented by Kehinde Wiley and Degas, vibrant unrealistic colors by Fred Hatt, etc
Use of medium and values- (20 points)
Students demonstrate chalk/oil pastel on special paper utilizing five or more values
Full drawing and Proportion- (20 points)
Figure fills the whole page and shows evidence of a planned space.
Figure is proportioned into 7/8 heads
Highest point approaches top of page
Lowest point approaches bottom of page
Craftsmanship- (15 points)
Students exhibit good quality of mark making- no unintentional marks, no fingerprints, no unintentional smudges around the page, smooth blending and application of medium is present.
Perseverance - (15 points)
Student worked diligently throughout the project
Background - (15 points)
Student created a background that either resembles their mentor artist, or created an environment where their figure could realistically be found.
