Students create a photosynthesis infographic on Canvas or a painting to summarise what they have learned about photosynthesis. Students illustrate the key components of photosynthesis on their infographic - carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight - and present it to the whole class, who will critique it.
NGSS Standards: S.1 The arts are inherently experiential and actively engage learners in the processes of creating, interpreting, and responding to art.
Create a 3-D model of the life cycle of a bean plant. Students are given the opportunity to make a symbolic representation of the germination process.
NGSS Standards: S.2 Development of skills, techniques, and processes in the arts strengthens our ability to remember, focus on, process, and sequence information.
O.1 Understanding the organizational structure of an art form provides a foundation for appreciation of artistic works and respect for the creative process.
Students will create markers labeling each different type of plant. Along with the label, they will add a QR code that can be scanned, linking to directions on how to best care for that plant. The QR code can be linked to an infographic created on Canva or a short video created on Flipgrid (different art forms, different artistic language).
NGSS Standards: O.3 Every art form uses its own unique language, verbal and non-verbal, to document and communicate with the world.
Students use Canva to create flyers (inviting the community to see the garden). Students create their own PowerPoint Presentations to present their community garden and how this benefits others. Students may opt to create a podcast on Spotify Anchor to spread the word about their garden across the school and broad community.
Audience: key members of the community
Students keep the following in mind when creating their PPTs:
Plan your slide layout
Avoid fancy fonts
Use contrasting colors for text and background
Keep slide design consistent with the theme
Use animations and transition effects sparingly
