Grade Level: Upper Elementary (Grades 3 to 5)
Unit duration: 4 weeks
Utilizing academic content knowledge from Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) as well as Literacy (English Language Arts), students will be able to:
identify resources they need to start a community garden
select types of vegetables to plant and when to plant these in the garden
design the community garden
harvest vegetables from their garden
present their ideas to key members of the community to gain support for their plan
garden, growth, sustainability, design, model, engineering, diversity, ecosystem, interconnectedness, community, service, action, campaign, advocacy
This project was planned with Curriculum Standards in mind. Standards are drawn from Common Core, ISTE, and NGSS.
