Ukrainian Easter Eggs!
-A lesson for 6th Grade Social Studies was conducted learning about the country of Ukraine and its culture. This was done during the time of Easter, allowing myself to structure the lesson with an Easter theme. Students were instructed to design the eggs with a specific Ukraininan Easter Egg design shown to them on a PowerPoint slide. After decorsting, inside each of the three boxes students had to include a symbol of an item learned from either reading or research about Ukraine and its culture. A lesson was instructed and designed to be fun, informative, and festive for the students.
Black History Project
-Understanding that most of my students in class are minorites and a large section of the students are African American, I decided to devote time for a grand lesson and project for Black History Month. Students were shown a PowerPoint on Black Heroes and their legacy. After, students were tasked with choosing an influential Black Figure for their own "Legend in a Bag" project. For this project students had to choose a figure, decorate the bag in the theme of that person, include relevant information and research, provide a well developed essay, and include items inside the bag that relate to their chosen figure. The projects turned out wonderfully and students were engaged and interested throughout.
