What's Cougar Pathways and Cougar Climb?
The goals of the project are to develop a national model for CS/IT education. This model will include support for critical transition points, undergraduate research experience, and faculty development to enhance undergraduate CS/IT success. [Add more info]
Successful transition from CS0 to CS1 and CS1 to CS2 will be supported through engagement materials, supplementation instruction (SI) and advisement.
Undergraduate research experiences, using the Affinity Research Group (ARG) model, will be used to increase professional competence and identity, including persistence to graduation.
Faculty development in growth mindset will be provided and assessed, to identify contributions to student success.
The guiding research questions are:
To what extent does a CS/IT major-specific freshman orientation, improve student first year success and retention?
To what extent does gamification encourage student engagement in the co-curricular activities and support student success?
To what extent does revision of the CS0/CS1/CS2 curriculum improve student success?
To what extent is supplemental instruction (SI) participation associated with improved student success in the targeted course?
To what extent do guided pathways and career building support student success and retention in the major?
