Reception

A warm welcome to all of our Reception families! Reception is part of the 'Early Years Foundation Stage' and we are committed to giving your child the best start to their education. Here at Park Lane, we believe all children should become independent learners with a zest for curiosity and inquisitiveness. We encourage positive relationships and routines as a fundamental foundation of your child's development. Together, with parents and carers, we have thought carefully about the skills needed to give children the best start in life. We encourage all children to become compassionate, friendly, confident and autonomous in order to fulfil their full potential.

Each half-term consists of a new topic. Enhanced learning opportunities to explore these topics further will be given to the children during their sessions and will become part of their daily diet. We encourage individualism and enthusiasm to learning and understand that all children learn through their play experiences.

Our reception environment both indoor and outdoor, instils awe and wander in our children through exploratory and adult-led learning opportunities. Phonics is taught daily with a focus on learning 5 new sounds per week to begin with and then progressing onto to CVC words. Maths and English are taught daily. The whole environment is filled with both maths and English activities such as how to subitise numbers, explore patterns, shape, positional language, length, writing opportunities, letter formation stations, reading tasks and many more.
