Two Lanes Two Times

The first book we read in Parisian Views was Père Goriot. This might have been my favorite book that I have read, and I am not too into reading. The book begins with a chapter long description of the boarding house that some of the main characters live in. This immediately drew me in. That is what I feel separates the author, Balzac, from every other author. He has the ability to turn a chapter into a movie. He made me feel as if I were there, a member of the house.

That is what “Two Lanes, Two Times” does. It is just a picture, but it has the ability to tell us a story.

In the right-hand lane, there are no cars. The two people there seem to be just silhouettes. That is where we are, a dark place, some of us feeling like we need to be seen. In a blink of an eye we were all sent home from school, restaurants began to close, and curfews were put in place. However, there will always be light at the end of an ominous road. The sun will lighten up the world once again.

The left-hand lane shows that this world has been through hell and back time and time again, but we bounce back stronger than ever. The streets will be filled with cars. The LED lights on buildings will illuminate the streets. This image is a sign of hope, keep your heads up, we will be back.
