Applications are now open!
For the year's powerpoint overview as well as list of additional resources. USE THIS! (There are powerpoints from previous years, specific practice for different parts, etc.)
This is also for an overview of the event. Studying only from the wiki page is insufficient preparation for competition.
Resources you must complete/study from.
Food-Borne Illness Chart from the FDA (NJIT likes to focus on this! -- MEMORIZE!!)
Must complete ALL lessons and practice problems
All of the links under "Problem Solving Tip and Practice Problems"
Any other resources you think you need that will help!
(If these links don't work, ask officers for pdf copies from drive.)
From past participants
Make sure you memorize all formulas, diseases, events, definitions, and steps of the processes prior to competition. Even though you have a note sheet, there is only one (you can only fit so much), and it wastes time flipping back and forth!
Make 1 note sheet with your partner for the things you really can not remember. Do not waste unnecessary space for information you should have memorized. Only the essentials!!
Learn epidemiology with the cdc website, then reinforce with the additional materials. Once you understand the information, then you can practice with test-taking (the application).
Most of the test is application based, therefore, better to practice frequently.
Each partner must carry their own weight because there is a LOT OF INFORMATION for Disease Detectives!!
Use your event guideline as a checklist of the things you have studied. Must study every listed topic in depth!
Take every practice exam in school seriously!
