After surveying 100 high school students, we learned that 60% of those who were surveyed had experienced a panic attack. Of the 60%, the top three causes of them were due to academics, family issues, and phobias. This led to our further research into these risk factors, we made sure to primarily advocate these topics on our TikTok account. We also asked respondents to tell us what they found as the most helpful for dealing with panic attacks, the top three preventative measures are music therapy, talking with friends and family, and talking to a therapist.
After conducting and analyzing our research we decided that the most effective way to bring awareness to the risk factors and protective factors was by focusing on the top three choices that most students related to. In order to pursue this, we created projects such as Project Feel-Good and Project It's Okay not to be Okay to advocate how academic stress is one of the leading causes of panic attacks and how talking to a mental health professional can be a useful tool in preventing panic attacks.
