An extremely beneficial way to prevent panic attacks is by treating the underlying cause of them. This can be done by seeing therapists or trusted adults. Many students are often hesitant to talk to someone because they may feel alone. To show students that they are not alone we put up posters around our school with quotes that encourage students to talk to someone or try a coping mechanism to reduce stress and create motivation within students.
Our school's environment is considered by many students to have a very competitive nature. This nature of our school creates an environment where many students deal with academic stress. To combat this we decided to pass out notes reminding our peers that sometimes we need to take a break. All of the quotes that we passed were meant to act as motivational messages to inform students of the importance of maintaining self-care and a healthy mind.
A way to handle stress is through using stress-playing objects such as fidget spinners, fidget cubes, and slimes. We decided that with the upcoming AP exams, we would like to offer students an outlet for their stress before their exams. For this project, we handed out stress balls to offer students before taking their exams, an outlet for their anxiety for their exam.
Another way to educate our target audience was through the old-fashioned pamphlets. We decided to create a pamphlet to offer students information regarding panic attacks and their risk and protective factors. This pamphlet offered students support and reassurance that their mental health is a priority.
