Uniform Requirements
The Boy Scouts of America® has always been a uniformed body. Its uniforms help to create a sense of belonging. They symbolize character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Wearing a uniform gives youth and adult members a sense of identification and commitment.
Full and complete uniforms should be worn neatly and respectfully. There are 2 types of uniforms worn, Class “A” and Class “B” as follows;
Class “A” Uniform: Rank Specific Hat, Rank Specific Neckerchief with Slide, Shirt with All Required Patches, Belt, and Switchback Pants (nice jeans or khakis are acceptable). Neckerchiefs should be in place correctly and shirts should always be tucked in.
Class “B” Uniform: Rank Specific Hat, Pack 558 t-shirt (your scout can also wear any BSA approved t-shirt or sweatshirt to BSA activities), and nice jeans or khakis (your scout can also wear his Switchback pants if he owns them). Shirts should always be tucked in. The Pack 558 has a t-shirt that can be purchased for $15 for your scout and anyone in the family (this is so when we do pack events that we are easily recognizable).
If your son is growing out of his blue Cub Scout uniform, you may wish to consider purchasing the tan & olive green uniform for use as an Arrow of Light Scout in his second year. This is also the uniform that he will wear when he transitions into Boy Scouts.
All Scout uniforms should have the appropriate current rank achievements, activity segments, and other specific designations. See your Cub Scout’s handbook for correct placement. No patches should be sewn or placed on the back of uniform shirts. Instead, temporary patch holders may be worn on the right pocket flap or a special patch vest or jacket may be worn.
