Romania

For the Romanian party will be involved in OzOA project three researchers with expertise in atmospheric chemistry and analytical chemistry and one PhD student. A short description of the Romanian permanent staff will be given below:

Dr. Romeo Iulian OLARIU (Professor habil. Analytical Chemistry, Department of Chemistry and coordinator CERNESIM Center, UAIC) - The main research areas include: use of new methods in the identification, separation and quantification of environmental pollutants, recovery of pollutants from wastes and residual water, mechanistic investigation of reactive processes in the atmosphere involving volatile organic compounds, inorganic and organic pollutants monitoring from various natural matrixes. He was coordinating an important number of national and international projects and is presently coordinating (director) the CERNESIM research centre from “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi. The data obtained within various research areas are presented in more than 50 articles published in ISI quoted journals and more than 660 citations (self-citation excluded).

Dr. Cecilia ARSENE (Professor habil. Analytical Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, UAIC) gained over the years experience in handling laboratory investigation and field measurements. Her present main research interests focus on: atmospheric chemistry and physics (aerosols and gas phase related, atmospheric burden, chemical composition, reactivity), mechanistic/kinetic investigations and analytical chemistry (in the field of chromatography). Dr. Cecilia Arsene’s work resulted in 45 publications in peer reviewed ISI quoted journals and more than 600 citations (self-citation excluded). She has coordinated international projects under FP-6 or FP-7 (ECITAMA, ICAARUS), bilateral actions (EQUILIBRIAS-PRO, CCUA), NATO-SfP (CCAA). Presently she is coordinating EVOLUTION-AIR project at national level.

Dr. Iustinian Gabriel BEJAN (senior researcher CERNESIM, UAIC). Dr. Bejan research interest include gas phase photochemistry, kinetic and mechanistic investigations on the oxidation reactions relevant for atmosphere, radical chemistry as well as the gas – particle partition processes, secondary organic aerosol formation and chemical composition. Dr. Bejan is one of the few researchers in Europe having the experience of using most of the simulation chambers included in the EUROCHAMP network: QUAREC-Wuppertal, EUPHORE-Valencia, CRAC-Cork, HIRAC-Leeds etc. Dr. Bejan has more than 40 per review articles, more than 15 proceedings and book chapter, 6 invited lectures and more than 90 posters.
