Career Goal Narrative
"I have loved engineering for a long time. As a kid, I remember that one time my grandma took me to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. I was mesmerized the second I stepped into that place. They have everything there, from Mars Rovers to artificial tornado generators. All I could think of was other things that I could build myself. That one spark really made an explosion for me. Ever since that day, I wanted to become an engineer and build things. When I was only 6 years old, I had an Invention Journal that I would record all my ideas in. I would just wander around my house, thinking of ways to make things better.
As I've gotten older, I've decided that my dream goal is to work in aeronautics and maybe even with rockets. I have always been into anything that flies. I really find it fascinating how we can fly through the air, almost like a bird, but in a multi-ton metal airplane. I would like to pursue a 4-year college path to get my master's in Mechanical Engineering. I want to go into Mechanical Engineering due to the fact that it is more broad, and you are not limited to one thing. Since I like all aspects of Engineering, not only aeronautics.
I was a busy person as a kid. I played soccer for many years, and I still do to this day. Also, I joined Cub Scouts at a young age, which heightened my love for engineering with their use of the STEM teaching technique. I was in Cub Scouts until I was in 5th grade, after which I crossed over and joined Boy Scouts. I have been a Boy Scout for a while now, and I have learned so much about a lot of topics, including leadership, engineering, wilderness survival, and much more. I even just recently got to visit a nuclear power plant at Ohio State, which allowed guests to visit the inside of the plant. It was one of many amazing opportunities I have had in Boy Scouts. This past Sunday, I made Eagle Scout, the most prestigious award in Boy Scouts, after a lot of work and a massive service project that required me to use some of my engineering abilities to complete.
When I was a freshman, I went to one of the tech center information meetings and I realized that they had an engineering program. I was overjoyed to know that I could learn more about my passion, and I was even more excited when I realized that I was accepted into the program. I have taken a lot of different classes in my time. I recently took AP Computer Science and learned JavaScript. I have also taken all honors classes for the past years and have built a lot of things with my dad in his workshop. For example, I helped him build a fully operational CNC machine. I would never pass up a chance at learning, and I will always try to learn something new and pursue my education even more.
Last year was my final year of the Leonardtonw Engineering program, refelcting back on my expeirence I think that I learned a lot and really got to see what an engineer specifically does. I have mastered many skills and completed many certifications that you can see in my Education and Certificates and Awards tab. Lastly I have really been able to develup my understanding for the Engineering design pocess since everyone in the class constructs yearly projects going by the guide lines of the engineering design process.
Now for a second time I participate in the 2023 - 2024 Science and Engineering Fair. I got first place in my category at the County level and got 3rd place in the State. Although at the state level, I did win the most awards from outside companies than any other participant. I believe this experience was very good for me to learn how to create something myself, as well as to present it to my superiors.
I did a brief internship on base for around 3 months In the spring of 2021 and this last summer I participated in a DoD program called SEAP were I got to work around actual engineers during full time work day. This summer I hope to work for the SEAP program again and have recently applied for the SMART program which is for up and coming colledge kids who have the abiltiy to work part time with the DoD whilst getting there colledge payed for. Now being in my Senoir year I have the hearty task of selecting a colledge to go to form the fall semester of 2025. I have selected to go to Liberty University and apply for the Mechanical Engineering department.
