Introduction
Hundreds of young children die every year in their sleep to the utter horror of their parents. Parents may install a baby monitor to keep a watch on their children but what happens when they are asleep? Parents have to constantly wake up for their children whether they are crying, sick or even just to check on them. Well this here is a device that can make up for some sleepless nights.
Objectives
This project is designed to protect parents from potential problems or needs for their child. First of all it is important that this device be able to read the temperature of a child.
Secondly the monitor also should be able to detect sound and show if the child is experiencing erratic movements. Lastly all of this data will be displayed on a secondary device that is situated next to the parents bed so it can make a noise to wake up the parents if anything is wrong.
Design Strategy
The way to accomplish these objectives are pretty simple.The monitor can use a basic arduino system. It probably will use an arduino mega for its extended board features as well as its high processing speed which will also allow for the complex data transfer that the monitor will need to do. Connected to the Arduino will be 3 main sensors. The first one will be a temperature sensor which will use an IR camera to find the temperature of the child. Secondly a motion sensor will be installed to see if a child is moving erratically and may need to be checked on and lastly a sound sensor will be used to first of all sense if the child is crying then transmit the sound. Leading from that a transmitter will be used to transmit all the data from these sensors to a secondary arduino which will use a receiver to store this data then to display it on a LED display.

Of course the first thing that is needed to be done on this project is to order all of the materials you can look at the design model so see them. Once all of the parts arrive the hard part begins. So when constructing arduino circuits with multiple different sensors it is important to construct each circuit separately. For example the IR sensor will be first, the wiring will need to be done and then the code will need to be written and debugged to get everything to work. This is all happening hoping that the part is not broken in which another one will need to be bought and this may disrupt the schedule. Once all of the different sensors are wired up and all the code is debugged all of the codes and wires will need to be added together. Most of the time some codes are not compatible with each other so the code will require debugging and reorganizing. After the wiring and the coding are complete the monitor should work fine but it will not look very nice so it is essential that I make it look aesthetically pleasing so that judges will look more kidney towards it.
Verification
Since the main part of the project is an IR sensor the way this sensor can be tested is to first of all heat up a heating pack or even some water then use a thermometer to find the heat and then use the IR sensor this way the Thermometer and the IR sensors can be compared and the room for error can be determined. The sound system is pretty easy just make sure that the sound is going into the receiver and out the speaker without distorting too much. Same thing for the motion sensor just really see if the arduino wiring is wrong and it is hooked up correctly. Since the IR sensor is about a person's body temperature it needs to be very accurate. The regular temperature for children is between 95.9 and 99.9 so I would like the IR sensor to have only a .2-.3 degree room for error to make sure that the monitor misses nothing.
