(Oxibelis fulgidius)
Seen in the grounds of our hotel in Tortuguero about a metre from the footpath between our lodges and the restaurant. This was not a large snake, maybe 1m in length and no thicker than our thumb.
(Bothriechis schlegelii)
A small but highly venomous snake that was so difficult to see. One of the security guards at the La Fortuna waterfall visitor- centre pointed it out to us. No idea how he saw it.
(Leptophis depressirostris)
Seen during our walk in Manuel Antonio NP. A medium-sized snake (this one was about a metre long), that used to be thought of as non-venomous. Turns out it is mildly venomous.
(Enuliophis sclateri)
Seen/found during a night walk near Esquinas Rainforest Lodge. These small snakes can move quite quickly and are apparently not usually so co-operative as this one, which seemed in no hurry to go anywhere.
(Leptodeira annulate)
The last snake we saw on our night walk at Esquinas. This is a small snake that got a little spooked took and hid in a tiny space on one of the footbridges near the lodge. Not the best photo unfortunately.
(Bothtrops Foliokarenus)
This very 'dangerous' variety of leafsnake was spotted by one of the group just off the Monteverde cloud forest trail.
