Glenn is a retired engineer. He has travelled quite extensively and has held a lifelong interest in photography.
Helen is a retired science teacher and has been enthusiastic about wildlife for many years, her interest heightend by a bio-diversity trip to Honduras a number of years ago and subsequent trips to Australia, New Zealand, Ecuador, Galapogos, Tanzania, The USA, Zambia and Costa Rica.
Whilst some of the 400+ photographs reproduced on this website were captured with iPhone Xr cellphone cameras, the overwhelming majority were taken using digital SLR cameras. Glenn used a Canon EOS 7DII with EF-S 15-85mm or EF 100-400mm II. Helen used a Canon EOS 80D with EF-S 18-135mm or EF 70-300mm. Peter Cooper used a Canon EOS 60D with either a Tamron 16-300mm or Canon EF 70-300mm. David Welchman used a Nikon D7500 with a 300mm lens for his bird shots.
The majority of the images were taken as jpegs (though David shot a lot of NEF files to begin with).
Nearly all of the photos have been 'processed' using Lightroom 5.7. Mainly for composition and noise/levels adjustments. Some images needed to be cropped quite hard to produce something large enough to see. Others were 'grab shots' against the light or in poor conditions (rain, gloomy forest etc.) so needed more effort to get something useable. It is for these that RAW (CR2 or NEF) files would have been very useful.
Three images have where noted, been 'edited' in Photoshop Elements 15.
For the website most photos have been reduced to be 1024 pixels ( though some are 640 pixels) along the longest side .
Flash was not used for any of the images appearing on this site. Not using flash was a challenge in the low light conditions often encountered and sometimes the images had more noise than desired.
Wildlife and nature doesn't always play nice when it comes to photography, but therein lies the joy.
In addition to various web sites, we primarily used two reference sources to identify the species in our photographs which we could then cross-check with the official sightings list for our trip, kindly produced by Johnny :
