Remarkable Moms

The Thought Behind the Boxes

When I was pregnant I felt prepared to be a mom. I had worked with children for many years and had nannied for twins so the news of our twins didn't phase me either. To any mom out there it is no surprise that motherhood wasn't exactly what I imagined.

For some moms, motherhood will never be as it was imagined. My life as a mother changed the moment I heard the words "there is something wrong with Baby B's heart." For other's it's a different diagnosis or disability, endless nights in the hospital, or having to say goodbye to their child. Navigating the medical system is not easy. Especially right now it is isolating, scary and an emotional roller coaster. There have been days as a medical mom that I have felt lonely, discouraged, guilt that I am not doing enough and grieve a "normal" family life.

When I was in the hospital for the first time with my son I became friends with the mom next door in the ICU. One day I saw her walking past our room crying as they wheeled her daughter out for another procedure. She was alone as her husband and daughter had to be back home for work. I remember in that moment thinking that I needed to do something for her. My husband and I left that afternoon for the mall to gather some special items in a gift basket for her to bring her some joy that day. She was so grateful to recieve her gift that night.

For this reason, I wanted to come up with a way to support other moms. I wanted to find a way to show other moms that they are not alone, that they are being thought of and to make their day in a time that may be very difficult for them so I started making these gift of love boxes. With my current resources, I have been able to gift one of these boxes once a month.

What is in the Box?

Each box contained personalized items specific to the mom's situation. I love to include local items for the moms and sometimes for their children as well. Some of the items I have included in the past are:

  • Reading Socks

  • Candles

  • Bath/Shower products

  • Books

  • Children's Hospital Gown

  • Children's Book

  • Sweet Treats/Drink

  • Coffee money

  • Soup/Cookie mixes

  • Journals/Daytimer

  • Sign

  • Engraved Necklace

Who Can Recieve A Box?

Most of the boxes go to moms that I hear about are friends through my time in hospital or people I connect with through hospital, heart mom and cp facebook groups. I have had moms referred to me as well. If you know a Remarkable Mom who needs some encouragement I would love to hear about them! Please contact me and share a little about them and why you think they would benefit from this gift of love.
