You must be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior.
You must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
You must be in good standing with school policies and procedures.
You must demonstrate excellent character and leadership in school, the classroom, and/or non-school-related activities.
All students must apply this year even if they are a returning member.
The selection process is as follows:
At the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, invitations to apply for NHS will be sent to the qualifying students. New and returning members must complete their own applications without the help of peers, parents, or instructors.
When each student submits their application, their application will be evaluated amongst many others by a five-member OPHS Staff committee previously selected by the principal. For each application, there will be a majority vote. Students who win the majority vote of the staff committee will be offered membership into the club, whereas students who do not win the majority vote will not.
Students who were offered membership into the club who are new to the club and did not participate in NHS the previous year will be invited to the annual National Honor Society Induction Ceremony. At this event, they will receive a pin and certificate affirming their membership in the club (however, if a member chooses not to go to the ceremony, they will still be in the club, certificate or not).
This ceremony should last about an hour and a half and will be followed by a quaint reception outside of the OPHS Pavilion. Family is welcome to come.
