A remote or hybrid manager is a boss who leads a team that has some people working in the office and some people working from home. A new normal after 2021. But it is hard to be a good boss for a remote/hybrid team. You have to make sure everyone works well together, everyone is treated fairly, and everyone is happy and healthy.
A remote/hybrid manager needs to be good at talking, working, and planning with people who are in different places and times. Need to be flexible, understanding, and caring about what their team members want and need.
Few things a remote hybrid manager should from my POV:
Know each team member’s personality, goals, and way of working.
Make everyone feel safe and comfortable to share their thoughts, worries, and feedback.
Tell everyone what they need to do, how they need to do it, and why they need to do it. And give everyone the things they need to do their work.
Talk to everyone often and well using different ways, such as video calls, messages, emails, and software.
Make everyone feel like part of the team by having fun and friendly activities online or in person, such as chatting, drinking, playing, or celebrating .
Praise everyone for their work, tell them how they can do better, and help them learn new things.
A remote/hybrid boss can make the workplace better by making a more welcoming, cooperative, and effective team. By paying attention to what each team member wants and needs, make everyone feel like they belong and care about their work. By talking clearly and often, they can avoid problems and confusion and make everyone know what is going on. By having fun and friendly activities, they can make everyone trust and like each other more. And by praising, telling, and helping everyone, they can make everyone work harder and smarter.
A remote hybrid manager is not only a boss but also a helper, a supporter, and a teacher for their team. They need to deal with the challenges of leading a different and spread out team with the chances of making a more free and creative workplace.
