Kinesthetic Rub is NLP technique is to create a checkpoint for unresourceful thoughts and a kinesthetic rub for positive emotions. This technique can help reduce anxiety, stress, or negative emotions that may interfere with one’s goals or well-being.
The steps of this technique are:
Identify a situation or a trigger that causes unresourceful thoughts, such as “I can’t do this”, “I’m not good enough”, “I’m going to fail”, etc.
Notice the bodily sensations associated with these thoughts. Where is the tension, discomfort, or pain located? How does the posture, breathing, or facial expression change?
Choose a part of the body that can be easily touched with the hand, such as the arm, shoulder, or chest. This will be the kinesthetic anchor, a physical stimulus that will facilitate accessing a more positive state.
Recall a time when a confident, calm, happy, or any other resourceful state was experienced. Imagine reliving that moment in vivid detail. See what was seen, hear what was heard, and feel what was felt.
While feeling the positive state, gently rub the kinesthetic anchor with the hand. This will create an association between the physical sensation and the emotional state.
Repeat steps 4 and 5 a few times until the positive state is firmly linked to the kinesthetic anchor.
Return to the situation or the trigger that caused unresourceful thoughts. Notice how the thoughts and feelings have changed. If any negativity remains, use the kinesthetic anchor to activate the positive state and replace the unresourceful thoughts with more empowering ones.
Practice this technique regularly until it becomes automatic. Different kinesthetic anchors can be used for different positive states, depending on what is needed in different situations.
