February 2016 Update
The Olympia City Council adopted the 2016 Olympia Parks, Arts, and Recreation plan on February 9, 2016 after a yearlong public input process. The Parks Plan is Olympia's 20-year strategic plan for the Parks, Arts, and Recreation Department. Wildwood Neighborhood Association advocated for a number of items in the Parks Plan that directly impact our neighborhood, including the expansion of the Olympia Woodland Trail, the acquisition of Lot 4 of the Henderson property as overflow parking for Watershed Park and the Olympia Woodland Trail, and the retention of Wildwood Glen as a priority for interim use funding and future development. Here's how things shook out for WNA-related items including the Wildwood Glen Park:
- Olympia Woodland Trail: The plan budgets $350,000 in 2018 for design work on the trail's Phase 3 and looks to construction of phase 3 in 2022-2035. In addition, the City will pursue partnerships and grants for Phase 4 planning efforts. To learn more about the trail and what each phase represents, search for “Olympia Woodland Trail” on the City's website.
- Watershed Park and Olympia Woodland Trail Parking: There is no funding identified in the plan to acquire the Henderson Property Lot 4 as overflow parking. However, $500,000 is budgeted for improvements to the trailhead in 2022-2035. In addition, the City has budgeted for some near-term boardwalk and bridge replacements, as well as possible development of off-road bike trails in “Watershed Minor,” the undeveloped section of park nearest Wildwood.
- Wildwood Glen Park: There are no major improvements planned for this 2-acre undeveloped open space in our neighborhood.
