Asian Flu

The Asian Flu was caused by a strain of influenza. The Asian flu pandemic happened in 1957-1958. The Asian Flu is one of the most famous influenza pandemics that have happened in the world. The Asian flu was a category 2 flu pandemic outbreak, this type of influenza originated in China in the early 1957 and last until 1958.

The Asian Flu is originated from the mutation of wild ducks. In 1957, the vaccine for the Asian flu was introduced to help slow down the pandemic. In 1958, there was a second wave of the Asian flu. Soon, the Asian Flu came regular throughout the year.

H2N2 is a different type of influenza. H2N2 is a virus that is compromised in three different genes. H2N2 originated from a bird that is the carrier of influenza A. H2N2, also includes hemagglutinin (H2) and neuraminidase genes (N2). It was estimated that the worldwide there was 1.1 million deaths and there was 116,000 deaths in the United States.

In 1968, the Asian Flu was believed to have become extinct in the wild. Even though Asian Flu is not common anymore, some vials of the Asian Flu remain in laboratories around the world.

The Asian Flu was first identified in Guizhou. In February 1957, it spread to Singapore, it reached Hong Kong by April and in June is reached the US.
