As we step into a new year, we’d like to wish everyone a healthy, peaceful, and joyful 2026. We also want to sincerely thank all our followers and community members who care about the past, present, and future of the Wakefield Old School. Your support and thoughtful interest mean a great deal to us.
📐 Project Update
We are continuing to work closely with our architect on the site and building design, with a strong commitment to:
Preserving the historic character of the old school
Respecting Wakefield’s village identity and scale
Helping to address the local rental housing shortage
🏡 Design Philosophy
Our vision is guided by a loft-style design approach, thoughtfully adapted to Wakefield’s way of life. The design emphasizes:
Open, light-filled loft spaces that celebrate the original structure
Practical mudrooms, reflecting the outdoor-oriented lifestyle of Wakefield
Inspiration drawn from nature, seasons, and local activities such as hiking, skiing, river use, and everyday village life
🏗️ Current Status
We are in the process of applying for 12 loft-style residential units within the existing school building, focusing on adaptive reuse rather than new construction.
🔐 Site Safety & Security
During the consulting and design phase, we have also installed surveillance cameras on the private school property. These are in place solely to protect the building and site, prevent vandalism, and ensure safety while the project is under review and not actively occupied.
