Objective
Old Post Park receives a lot of direct sunlight and wind. We want to make the park more enjoyable by planting more shade trees and shrubbery to provide shade and wind protection.
Under the playground replacement project, large caliper shade trees will be planted around the playground. These trees will be maintained by the contractor for 2 years post planting.
In addition, we will replace the trees removed from Old Post Park due to disease with a grant from the community planting program, Partners in Parks.
Community Planting Program
The City of Waterloo has scheduled the Old Post Park to receive grant funding for tree planting for Fall 2022., with the Partners in Park - community planting program. More information on this program available here.
Tree and Park Bench Dedication Program
If you would like to donate to add a dedicated tree or bench to the Old Post Park, please find more information here.
Community Support Needed
In order to meet the requirements for the community tree planting grant, we need the following support from the community:
1) Neighbourhood water source is needed to water the trees. Since there is not a water source in the park, we need residents who live along the park to volunteer a water source to be able to water the trees.
2) Tree watering volunteers We need community volunteers to help water the trees for 2 years after the trees are planted in the park to ensure they thrive.
