INSIGHTS

LEARNINGS

Being an intern at Melham Construction Company taught me how to adapt to a new working environment. I believe that this experience improved my ability to think critically and independently. Being resourceful and achieving the outcomes our team leader was looking for required ongoing learning and learning how to look at a problem from all angles. I also learned that placing an emphasis on getting to know my co-interns and understanding their strengths and weaknesses would give the team an easier time identifying the ways each could offer the most support in achieving the greatest impact. I realized how important communication skills are and how far they can bring you in the career that you chose. Lastly, I learned how to stay focused on my work. Working at home starts to feel like home at work instead and it is hard to stay focused if you are distracted by noises or house chores. I believe that learning how to focus on my tasks improved my professional work ethic and will get me through stressful working environments in the future.

The most memorable event for me was when I was creating and editing the website's database using MySQL. Prior to this project, I have only worked with the Firebase database so I was happy that I get to experience working with a new programming language.

RECOMMENDATIONS

I was able to refresh and enhance my knowledge of several back-end programming languages such as PHP and SQL while working as a developer in DigiTex LMS. I also gained valuable knowledge from their webinars that helped me improve myself and will help me once I graduated. And for these, I am grateful to Melham Construction Corporation and the Unified Internship Program. My only recommendation for the UIP Internship Program is they should conduct face-to-face internships in the future. Interns will learn a lot more if they are surrounded by professionals who will guide them through their tasks and concerns will be addressed immediately. If not possible, they should assign dedicated team leaders, who are professionals, to their project teams to achieve the same goal.
