INSIGHTS
Learnings from the internship program
Being able to participate in this internship program was a big opportunity not only for myself but also for my co-interns. It was because we learned few of the basic working etiquettes such as being on-time, establishing good communication, and being assertive:
1. Arriving earlier on your starting work hour signifies a worker's determination not only to maintain the job but to also prove one's excellence in his or her chosen career path.
2. Establishing good communication in the workplace is very necessary to give out clear instructions and build a good foundation of trust to your team/teammates.
3. Assertiveness emphasizes one's knowledge of what he or she likes to do or not to do. I actually learned what I really wanted to do with my career path in the future after taking this internship program and I also learned how to speak and decide for myself.
Remarkable event from the internship program
The remarkable event from the internship program was the underwhelming atmosphere of the company because of its lack of developer professionals that could had at least given us guidance and distinct direction to follow in maintaining the website, and the role assignment. I actually never saw myself being placed in a back-end developer role, but I could consider this as a blessing in disguise since it enabled me to see both sides of website development. Another was the bond that my teammates and I created as we worked together.
Advice for those who want to take this internship program
There are two things that I would like to give for the future interns who would want to join this internship program. First, improve yourself not only on technical skills but also your soft skills. Study different programming language as much as you can and at the same time, learn to discipline yourself such as realizing the importance of scheduling and understand that communication will always get you out of confusion.
Second, do not expect too much. The processing of internship applicants may be quick and seem easy for the admin, but the tasks within a team may be quite underwhelming.
Recommendations for the improvement of the internship program
To improve the internship program, programming professionals should be present so that the interns would know what to do and how to do things properly in developing a website or a mobile application. Another, the internship program just continuously accepted interns even though the number of projects available were reducing which resulted in wasted time for the waiting interns. To avoid this, the internship program should set an ideal number of applicants that they could accommodate immediately.
