INSIGHTS
LEARNINGS:
Technical Skills: Back-end Development using PHP programming language and MySQL database server
Punctuality and Task Organization
Teamwork
Problem-solving Strategies
REMARKABLE EVENT:
Over the past semesters, I was generally assigned as the front-end developer of our team, making my role in this OJT as a challenge to be a back-end developer. One of the most memorable events in this internship was the task of modifying values in the database, which was my first time experience. I was able to explore the MySQL Workbench application and learn how to create a connection to a database server. I also learned how to create databases, tables, and data within those tables.
RECOMMENDATION:
I was able to discover if I was fit or not for back-end development tasks, thanks to the Unified Internship Program (UIP) of the Melham Construction Corporation (MCC). Although I was able to complete my OJT hours and requirements because of how much they experienced managing college internships, there could be improvements to the time efficiency of their off-boarding system. The internship program could also have provided more project options for the interns to choose from, so that their preferred career path would be followed. Internships should be able to provide valuable experiences and skills that can be applied in the actual workplace.
ADVICE:
For those interns who will be taking the UIP-MCC program, my advice is that they should possess the quality of being punctual to submit their requirements on time in order to finish the OJT with less hassle. They should also keep in mind that most of the tasks will be given to them directly by the team leader, and it is up to the interns how they will be able to complete the assignment in their own method. In short, they should be knowledgeable about technical stuff and resourceful enough how to effectively solve every task assigned to them.
