Development in the food we eat in New Zealand reflects the changes in our society in recent times
The scenario: Scots College is doing away with Chartres Hall and the Tuck Shop (just pretending!) and establishing an eatery made of 10 different food spaces.
In pairs, students created a proposal for a new fast food franchise for this eatery.
The project included :
Design of a company logo
The logo must be used on the report and the packaging
The logo had to include at least three different transformations (chosen from translation, rotation, reflection and enlargement)
Creation of a container
The item of food needed to be presented in a container, designed for maximum volume and minimum surface area (in order to keep expenses down).
Presentation of a report
The report had to include
a detailed nutrition label
a menu with prices based on the current cost of raw ingredients, labour and cost of resources
This project was part of an interdisciplinary unit involving science, english, humaities and mathematics.
A Spreadsheet was used
to model the container volume and surface area
to do the costings and pricing for the food items
Students designed their own spreadsheets for this
Some used them as a word processor some used spreadsheet formula so they could conduct what-if scenarios
