and do they have a place in my classroom?
Podcasts are a series of audio or video recordings. The New Oxford American Dictionary declared “Podcast” as Word of the Year 2005
Audio is a useful way to get students to share their learning and express their views, particularly for learners who are less able to write down their ideas.
Podcasts can help develop students’ listening, research and writing skills. They can also help to improve speaking and problem-solving.
Teachers are beginning to build podcasts into their learning programmes as an alternative way of:
Delivering content or lessons;
Providing additional material for pupils to review on their own time.
Giving feedback
Bridging the gap between oral and written language
Creating a real audience for student work
What do i have to think about if i am going to create a series of podcasts
1. The content
2. What style will the podcast be conducted in? : solo, interview, discussion, storytelling
3. How long will I make each episode?
4. What gear will I need? You can record and start your own podcast with nothing more than a smart phone. Recording Editing software like Audacity, quicktime, garage band make production easier. Note. recording your file in MP3 format will make editing and uploading easier, as it compresses well and plays on most devices.
5. Record your 1st episode. Don’t worry about any mistakes or long pauses during the recording, as you can edit this out later. Practice makes perfect when it comes to working on your speaking voice, especially for longer episodes.
6. Where will i put my podcast? Podcasts are uploaded to a "host" so others can listen. Hosts include platforms like soundcloud and podbean.
