Information about TEW2 (Practicum I)
TEW2 is a workshop designed to communicate to students the process of applying for Practicum I and explain and answer questions about what it is.
Here are the key elements:
Practicum I includes a placement in a school setting for a total of 30 hours. It is split into two-15 hour experiences, one at the elementary (pK-6) level and one at the high school (7-12) level. It is intended as a first experience of observing, co-teaching, and teaching in an actual school setting and will help you understand better the differences in the two levels for when you choose your subsequent practicums.
Instructional Dynamics III is the EDU course that you take concurrently with Practicum I.
You need to APPLY for Practicum I placement.
Follow these steps in the application process:
Attend and earn a "pass" for TEW2 meeting
Complete and submit:
Note these prerequisites:
Passing score on PRAXIS CORE or the equivalent in SAT/ACT/GRE;
Cumulative GPA of 2.75 and GPA of 2.75 in my content major or concentration:
All prerequisite coursework as designated per program;
B- or better in EDU courses;
Passing grade on EDU-G/TEW1 (for Practicum I)
Cover Letter (sample)
Fieldwork Chart (sample)
Resume (sample)
Set up an interview (with the UA Program Director) at which the following occur:
Review of application materials
Review of the practicum experience and expectations
Short, informal interview
This is also a perfect time to complete the Application for a Teacher Education Program.
The required interview for this can be combined with the Practicum I interview.
Information about TEW3 (Practicum II)
TEW3 is a workshop designed to communicate to students the process of applying for Practicum II and explain and answer questions about what it is.
Here are the key elements:
Practicum II includes a placement in a school setting for 60 hours. This fulfills the AOE's licensure requirement for an endorsement in either pK-6 or 7-12. Student Teaching will fulfill whichever level is not completed in Practicum II. We recommend that the student teaching placement be at the grade level you most want to teach at and therefore Practicum II should be at the other level.
The Art of Experience is the EDU course that you take concurrently with Practicum II
