This section is Hidayah's own personal experience and reflections as a Volunteer @ Petrosains, KLCC.
Petrosains has held the first ever conference on STEM that was held in collaboration with IIUM. I was humbled to be a part of the volunteers of STEM. There were many talks and workshops that intended to inspire the teachers for their teaching and learning. I was assigned to assist Encik NAI from Petrosains to conduct his workshop of Creative & Innovative Classroom Teaching. His effort had inspired me to think creatively out of the box for the sake of getting the students fully engaged in the learning.
It was quite funny how we both, me and +Hidayah Razali (Yaya) ended up joining this volunteering programme for Petrosains.
Initially, one of our lecturer's (Dr Rosemaliza) connections were looking for volunteers who would like to join for the programme. Little did we know, we actually skipped the procedure of the application through online. Eventually, we were given the opportunity to be interviewed despite skipping the procedure and in the end we both were qualified and managed to get in.
Most of our batches who managed to get through had just recently graduated from high school. I admire these kids for their passion and desire to work after completing high school. It is surely a great exposure to develop your knowledge and social skills. Over here I get to meet lots of new people from different backgrounds and it's overwhelming how despite our differences, we respected each others and our conversations lead to the same page.
I love observing people and their upbringings. Joining Petrosains as a volunteer is one of the many decisions in my life that I would never regret. Apart from meeting new people, I got to know myself better. Being a true introvert, I managed to adapt myself to be acquainted with the new people I meet and be more open to socialise. Little did I know, my social skills has grown from time to time, comparing to how I was over the years.
Most importantly, I learned a lot over here, from the science knowledge gained, to facilitating skills, observation of parenting skills from the visitors, coaching from the friendly staff of Petrosains and many more.
I really hope to benefit a lot from my journey as a volunteer at Petrosains.
With the June 2018 batch.
