Starting August 1, 2025, each awarded student will receive a monthly stipend of NT$28,000 (approximately USD950, subject to exchange rate). Scholarship funding begins on the date of the student’s first attendance in the Chinese language course at the Chinese Language Center at NTHU and ends on the date their enrollment is completed. The scholarship may be terminated early if the student fails to meet program requirements.
Note: The total scholarship amount will be prorated based on the actual length of study. For attendance shorter than a full month, the amount will be calculated at NT$933 per day.
Students awarded the scholarship are required to fulfill ALL of the following responsibilities during the scholarship period:
Chinese Language Courses
Attend a minimum of 15 hours of Mandarin language classes offered by NTHU each week.
Note:
This does not include cultural visits, speeches, or self-learning activities. Tuition fees for the courses must be paid by the student before scholarship funds are distributed.
Absence policy: If a student is absent from class without an approved leave request for 20% or more of their total course hours in a month, they will be ineligible to receive the scholarship for that month.
Lecture Participation
Attend lectures or seminars arranged by NTHU as part of the scholarship program.
Project-Based Language Learning (PBLL) Participation
All awarded students must participate in PBLL projects o arranged by NTHU as part of the scholarship program. These projects integrate cultural and language learning throughout the scholarship period.
Youth English and Second Foreign Language Cultivation Activities
All awarded students are required to dedicate about 3 hours per week during the scholarship period to the following activities:
Native English-speaking students will assist with English courses, clubs, or camps at local public elementary or junior high schools.
Native Polish or Spanish-speaking students will organize Polish or Spanish cultural and language workshops for high school students to promote the learning of a second foreign language.
Language Proficiency Test
Take the TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language) at awarded students’ own expense before returning to your home country.
Final Report Submission
Submit a brief report summarizing your academic and cultural experience at NTHU before returning to your home country.
Upon arrival, awarded students will need to open a bank account at a local bank for their scholarship to be deposited. After completing the registration process, the scholarship will generally be transferred to that account on a monthly basis. The exact payment date depends on the Accounting Office and Cashier Division of NTHU. Program coordinators will inform students individually as needed.
Awarded students will be responsible for their scholarship once it has been deposited in their Taiwan local bank account. NTHU will not assist with overseas transfers/wiring of scholarships.
If awarded students fail to meet any of the above-mentioned requirements or decide to drop their course, the scholarship will be suspended immediately. Additionally, the scholarship may be suspended or revoked if students violate any laws of Taiwan or any regulations of NTHU or the Chinese Language Center (CLC) at NTHU.
Awarded students are required to have an insurance plan that covers medical expenses and accidents throughout their stay in Taiwan to help mitigate any financial risks related to healthcare. For students who will be in Taiwan for 6 months or longer, they will be required to opt into the Taiwan National Health Insurance.
Before arriving in Taiwan, awarded students must ensure they have sufficient financial support to cover program fees (including administrative fees, internet fees, etc.) and daily living expenses (such as transportation, housing, and meals). Additionally, students are responsible for meeting all visa requirements necessary for their stay in Taiwan.
If an awarded student is found to be receiving another scholarship simultaneously from Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) or the Taiwan Scholarship program, and this is verified, their scholarship will be revoked. The awarded student must then return all funds awarded during the overlapping period.
Awarded students who wish to stay in the dormitory will be provided with shared rooms for four students. By accepting this scholarship, they agree to the assigned dormitory placement.
The dormitory is located on Nanda Campus (see location on the Google Map, bottom left), which is separate from the main NTHU campus. The distance from the dormitory to the Chinese Language Center (see location on the Google Map, bottom right) is approximately a 40-minute walk, 25 minutes by bus, or 14 minutes by taxi.
