Getting Known in Solano County
Running for office doesn’t just start the day you decide to run. A well-prepared candidate should spend a significant amount of time getting known in the community before they even decide to run. Name recognition, public trust and credibility is built by candidates who roll up their sleeves and put in the work before they run for office. Sometimes this can even be years of preparation before you finally decide to run.
Volunteering through local non-profits, serving on local committees or action measures, volunteering at your local school, food closet or church. Voters trust members of their community who they recognize and have seen putting in the effort before election day. So, before you decide to run, make sure you think about your name recognition, reputation and time you have spent making your community better!
A few good examples of ways to increase your public presence and give back to your community:
Volunteering at your local school PTC or PTO;
Volunteering at local non-profit: Boys and Girls Club, food closet, shelter, youth sports group or senior center;
Joining a service club: Rotary, Soroptimist, or Moose Lodge;
Getting involved in youth sports, coaching, referring or volunteering as a team parent, Boy or Girl Scouts;
Volunteer for a local commission: Parks and Recreation, Community Services, or Planning;
Volunteering on local campaigns for other candidates or measures;
Joining industry or cultural groups: the Chamber of Commerce, APAPA, NAACP, or NAMI.
