Mira Costa College in Oceanside, CA will host a Banned Book Bingo. In conjunction with Mira Costa College's Umoja Organization, this interactive event will be fun as well as educational for all participants.

The Oceanside Main Library will host a movie night showing the critically acclaimed film, "The Hate U Give" which is an adaptation of the book written by Angie Thomas. The movie will be introduced by Dr. Bruce Hoskins, Professor of Sociology at Mira Costa College. Dr. Hoskins will also lead a discussion at the conclusion of the film.

According to the ACLU, "Censorship, the suppression of words, images, or ideas that are “offensive,” happens whenever some people succeed in imposing their personal political or moral values on others. Censorship can be carried out by the government as well as private pressure groups.
The American Library Association has put together a series of smart graphics that outlines censorship by the numbers to help raise awareness. Get informed and help educate others!
Join us for our capstone event a Brunch/Panel Discussion on banned books,. There will be virtual comments and a presentation by Dr. Shirley Weber, California Secretary of State. Panelists for the panel include: Introductions by Mayor of Oceanside, CA, Esther Sanchez (also a panelist); Eric Joyce, Oceanside City Council member, District 1; and Rena Marrocco, trustee, Vista School Board District 2. The event will be moderated by Kamilah Brown, Vice Principal, The Preuss School.
