Module 1: Introduction
Module 1: Introduction
Welcome! This portfolio serves as a central hub for my journey through the Graduate Certificate in Educational Technology, bringing together new artifacts, projects, and insights I will develop over the next five weeks. Looking ahead to August, I want this space to reflect not just the final products of my work, but the evolution of my thinking as an educator and professional navigating the intersection of technology, design, and instruction under unique circumstances.
Right now, my professional context is defined by my role as an active-duty military member currently deployed to Somalia. Out here, I work directly with the Danab Strike Force soldiers, assisting them in building out their long-term training pipeline and developing sustainable training objectives. It is a high-stakes, fast-moving environment where the clarity, efficiency, and delivery of instruction are absolutely critical. Working to build a sustainable educational infrastructure for adult learners in a tactical environment has given me a deep appreciation for the vital role that structured, intentional instructional design plays in knowledge retention and operational success.
That unique mission is exactly what drives my focus in ELRC 7505. While this course fulfills a requirement for my certificate, I am genuinely here to bridge the gap between educational technology frameworks and real-world implementation under challenging conditions. Over the next five weeks, I want to sharpen my ability to evaluate digital learning initiatives and translate high-level guidelines into practical, localized training design choices. Specifically, I want to get better at building environments that don't just host content, but actively facilitate the streamlined, effective transfer of skills for learners who need to apply that knowledge immediately.
Everything I design and reflect on in the coming modules will be viewed through this lens: how do we create intentional, learner-centered educational spaces that support diverse individuals under real-world constraints? To the colleagues landing on this page later, and to the version of myself looking back at this from the other side of August, I hope this portfolio tracks a meaningful growth in my design choices, technical skills, and philosophy as an educational technologist.
