Merry Christmas From Newport Pagnell Christmas Lights
At Newport Pagnell Christmas Lights, our dedicated committee is the heart of our organisation. Comprised entirely of passionate volunteers, each member brings their unique skills and enthusiasm to ensure our festive celebrations shine brightly every year.
Chair
With 25 years of dedication to the Newport Pagnell Christmas Lights, Scot has taken on many roles over the years. As the current chair, or "Chief," as the team calls him, Scot coordinates all the team's activities and represents the group at external events. For him, the team is more like a family, working toward a common goal and always looking out for one another. Scot values the strong bonds they've formed, both during their work and in their regular social gatherings. "We generally have a great time," he shares, reflecting the warmth and camaraderie of the group.
Secretary
Since 2015, I’ve had the honor of being a volunteer for the Newport Pagnell Christmas Lights. Over the years, I’ve taken on many different roles, but my main position is as the Secretary on the Committee. In this role, I help coordinate the event’s operations and ensure everything runs smoothly.
In addition to my secretarial duties, I’ve been the organiser of our annual switch-on event, a tradition I’ve overseen since I started volunteering. Each year, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the town come together for this special moment when the lights illuminate our streets.
I’ve also contributed to various aspects of the event, including fundraising, install and maintenance of the lights, and running our social media accounts to keep everyone informed and excited about what’s happening.
It’s been an incredible journey to be part of such a cherished community event, and I’m proud to continue contributing to the Newport Pagnell Christmas Lights year after year.
Scott has been a vital part of the Newport Pagnell Christmas Lights team since 2012, serving as the Vice Chair for the past few years.
Known for his hands-on approach, Scott is our go-to "Ladder Monkey," helping with everything from building and installing festoons to rebuilding frames and features. He also liaises with local businesses to ensure a steady supply of electricity for the lights.
While Scott is always hard at work behind the scenes, he jokingly admits he’s never around when Santa arrives in December! He cherishes being part of the NPCL team, which he considers his extended family.
Since joining the Newport Pagnell Christmas Lights team in 2016, Sam has become an invaluable member of our community. Recently, she took on a new challenge by joining the committee to gain insight into the role of secretary. Sam embraces her responsibilities as one of the "next generation" of volunteers, understanding the importance of maintaining communication and raising public awareness about our initiatives.
A true hands-on member, Sam is always willing to roll up her sleeves and tackle any task that comes her way. With nearly a decade of friendship with many of our volunteers, she cherishes the bond they've formed, describing the team as a "big family." Sam is grateful for the experiences and connections she's made, stating, "I'm so glad I started, as I couldn't imagine myself without my second family!" Her passion and commitment continue to inspire those around her.
James joined the Newport Pagnell Christmas Lights team in 2022 and has quickly become a valued member of the committee. He contributes to the install team and assists with social media. James enjoys taking on a variety of tasks, including climbing ladders, and what he loves most is meeting new people through the volunteer work.
Helen became part of the Newport Pagnell Christmas Lights team in 2022 and is a key member of the committee, overseeing all aspects of health and safety. Whether it's putting up the Christmas lights, helping Santa, or volunteering for fundraising, Helen is fully involved. She’s grateful for joining such a friendly and like-minded group of people, sharing, "It’s hard work, but I’ve been having such fun!" Our very own Elf & Safety!
Janet has been an essential part of the Newport Pagnell Christmas Lights team for many years. She plays a crucial role in fundraising, dedicating her Saturdays from September through to the switch-on event, selling raffle tickets in all weather conditions. Janet's commitment to helping raise funds is a key part of ensuring the lights continue to brighten the town year after year.
