New Philadelphia City Schools - Facility Master Planning Project

In order to prepare for the future of the New Philadelphia Schools facilities, the district is embarking on a master planning project. These efforts ensure the development of a successful long-term facility plan, community engagement, and the best educational environment for students.

To support future growth in the community, new students and the changing world.

To explore the best possible environments for students to learn, continuing our tradition of excellence.

To develop a strategy around district facility plans and ensure the most efficient use of taxpayer dollars.

Partner with our community to develop a solution that allows everyone to participate and benefit from the solution.

Eighth Meeting of the Quaker Spirit Facilities Improvement Committee

The New Philadelphia Facilities Improvement Committee met for an eighth time, making progress on the facilities master plan project. The committee further discussed Locally Funded Initiatives (LFI’s) for the plan. They had an open conversation and reviewed examples of auditoriums and athletic facilities to get a better understanding of what is included in these spaces.

Seventh Meeting of the Quaker Spirit Facilities Improvement Committee

As the master planning process nears its completion, the New Philadelphia Facilities Improvement Committee met to discuss potential Locally Funded Initiatives (LFI’s) for their overall plan. LFI’s are additional elements above and beyond school base plans that enhance the overall plan. They can be associated with either the new PreK-6 or the 7-12 school and these additional elements may be important to the district’s long term plan.

Sixth Meeting of the Quaker Spirit Facilities Improvement Committee

In February, the New Philadelphia Facilities Improvement Committee met once again to review a variety of updates to the overall project as well as provide input on their preferences on segmentation for the plan. Of the updates, site fit studies demonstrated that a PreK-6 could be fit on the existing South site, if 6th grade was included in the new elementary school. Additionally, the project budget was adjusted for an anticipated 5% inflation.

WHY A MASTER PLANNING PROJECT?

In order to best prepare for the future of New Philadelphia City Schools facility needs, the district is embarking on a master plan project to better understand the long term facility needs for the district. These efforts ensure that students have access to the best possible educational environment, and that the district makes the best possible use of community funds.

Currently the district operates 7 buildings:

While these buildings continue to serve the district, as they age they will require more costly repairs. Some of the mechanical systems are reaching the "end of their lifecycle" and will require replacement. The district is working with an architect to understand building configurations, schedules and timelines, cost and budget issues and how facilities can impact the district for the next 70 years.

OUR STRATEGIC PLAN - A GLIMPSE OF NEW PHILADELPHIA'S FUTURE

The New Philadelphia City Schools Board of Education adopted a new Strategic Plan on January 10, 2023.  This new plan outlines the goals and objectives that the District will prioritize for the next three years.  This plan was developed in collaboration with district stakeholders including community members, parents, staff, and students.  Quarterly updates will be shared to communicate the progress that is being made over time.

Goal 1 outlines developing success and transparency on our Facilities, Finance and Transportation operations. This Master Planning Process helps to further that goal.
