Who You Threw To
Description
A group activity that develops focus, concentration, coordination, cooperation and team skills. The leader establishes a pattern and then can add new elements to build skills and/or build relationships
Requirements
Minimum 1 ball, usually a tennis size ball (more creates more options, various sizes and weights also optional)
5-12 people (less is too simple, more is too complicated, but it's up to you)
Action
Establish a Pattern
Leader says:
Face each other in a circle
All throws are underhand
Throw to, not at
Only 2 things you need to remember: Who threw to you & Who you threw to
Catch the ball when it is thrown to you
Throw the ball to someone who has their arms unfolded and is roughly across from you
Fold your arms after you've thrown to the next person
Leader does:
Throw 1 ball to someone across the circle
Fold arms
Next person repeats steps 1 & 2 until everyone has folded arms
Last person throws to Leader (If any throws are more sideways than across, consider moving the recipient one or two positions right or left as necessary)
Practice the Pattern
Leader throws to the same person that they threw to in the Establish a Pattern section
Next person throws to the same person that they threw to in the Establish a Pattern section
Repeat until ball is back in Leader's hands
Options
Continue the pattern for a set number of circuits
Reverse pattern
Give everyone a ball, everyone throws at the same time
Add a second ball, Add a third ball, etc. (Can you get to 1 ball per person? or maybe more?)
Add different shape or weighted balls (careful people can get hurt)
The Leader could ask a question that each person answers before throwing to the next person
What is your name? What is your prefered name? What is your stage name? What is your superhero name? etc.
Where are you from? Where are you going? Where is your favorite place to be?
Why are you here? Why are you here today?
What are your goals? What do you hope to accomplish?
