Have you ever thought about learning to fly a radio control (RC) aircraft? The club offers free flight training to folks interested in learning how to fly RC. Weather-permitting, we meet at our airfield on Wednesday evenings during the warmer months starting around 4:30pm or so, and continuing as demand requires.
PROSPECTIVE PILOTS: You don't need to bring anything with you except for the desire to learn to fly, and perhaps sunglasses, sunblock, and maybe a hat to help block that late afternoon sun. Our airfield is easy to find at 1933 County Rd 43 in Ft. Edward, NY (Click link for directions on Google Maps).Â
QUALIFIED TRAINERS: We have a great team eager to see you experince the sheer joy of RC flying. Bob Ernst has many years of RC flying experience, and his gentle guidance will have you in the air in short order. Ed Van Gelder has extensive experience with a large variety of aircraft, and will help you get into one of the most enjoyable hobbies there is: RC flying! And Mark Holbrook, our club's Safety Officer, is qualified for both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. He will ensure you have fun, and practice the art of RC flying safely.
FOR CLUB MEMBERS: Our Wednesday training night isn't just for folks new to the hobby. In our pavilion area, you are welcome to bring your radios and/or aircraft that you might have questions on. We have such a wealth of experience among our ranks, that someone will likely be able to help you out!
We do ask that club members remain physically separated from the flight training area (instructors and student pilots), to ensure maximum safety for everyone, and to enable our students (and instructors) to concentrate on the tasks at hand.
TRAINING AIRCRAFT: We use the HobbyZone Aero Scout, shown above, as our introductory training aircraft of choice. This aircraft features tricycle landing gear, making it easy to maneuver on the ground, and has a built-in flight stabilization system...perfect for learning to fly RC!
Our instructors use a wireless "buddy box" system, so both instructor and student pilots operate their own radios which are linked together, and the instructor can take over operation of the aircraft at any time, as needed. Typical flight times will range from 5-8 minutes, depending on the flight conditions and maneuvers being covered in a given lesson. Not to worry, we have plenty of batteries, so you'll typically be getting a few flights in on a given evening!
YOU'RE INVITED! So there you have it...you're invited to join in the fun. We can't wait to meet you, and introduce you to the thrill of piloting an RC aircraft!
