Staff Recommendations:
In May 31, 2023 an application was submitted to demolish a Non-Contributing 2,284 SF accessory building at 1518 Terpsichore that served as storage for a now defunct dry cleaners on Prytania Street. Staff determined that a portion of the building had already been razed in conjunction with an approved accessory building demolition at 1527 Euterpe.
The overall building building is over 1,000 SF and approval of demolition is not allowed at Staff level and requires HDLC Commission approval.
Staff recommends retention of the demolition without a Certificate of Appropriateness (CofA) and the approval of the complete demolition to grade of the remaining Non-Contributing building. Staff would like to reiterate that it is not common to recommend demolition of a highly visible site without redevelopment plans, but notes that communication with the applicant about the future of the site is ongoing.
