Description: Installation of visually prominent roof-mounted solar panels at a Landmark, single-family, residential building.

As proposed, both Option 1 and 2 meet the Guideline requirements for new solar installations. However, Option 1 is highly visible due to the open parking lot to the left of the structure. Staff does believe that solar panels and other clean energy equipment should be approved when possible but this building is a designated Landmark and new equipment and changes to the building should be highly sensitive. For this reason, Staff recommends approval of Option 2, as it is less visible from the public right-of-way, with the proviso that the panels should be setback an additional 5'-0" or two panel widths to further conceal the visibility from the public right-of-way.
