Permit #: 23-18266-HDLC
Description: Retention of the installation of an inappropriate roof at a Contributing rated, one-story, two-family residential building without a Certificate of Appropriateness.
HDLC Guidelines:
05: 10-11 – Guidelines for Roofing
Retention Items:
Removal of appropriate asphalt shingles for installation of inappropriate asphalt shingles without a CofA: No objection.
Staff Recommendations:
On July 7, 2023 the HDLC conducted a visual inspection of 805 Jackson and noted that the roof was being replaced with an inappropriate roof color (red) without a Certificate of appropriateness. A stop work and violation were placed on the parcel. Staff worked with the applicant and allowed them to complete the roof in order to ensure the building stayed water tight.
If the applicant had filed an application the roofing specification would have been reviewed and a permit issued. Currently there is low visibility on Jackson due to flora and less prominent visibility on Annunciation.
Due to the low visibility and the typical lifespan of roofing materials Staff has no objection to the retention of the installation of inappropriate shingles. Staff will also note in the parcel file that appropriate shingle shall be selected when the roof needs replacement in the future.
