If you MUST come out TODAY with handicapped / disabled persons, PLEASE CALL THE FARM, On WEEKENDS ONLY, and ask for Jennifer or Middle Bob.
We will of course do whatever we can.
Please remember it is a farm, and I usually hurt myself badly every year in a hole.
This year, I broke my ankle, and now have a really long story to tell, if I'm even working outside.
(Don't ask unless you really want to be grossed out... )
During the week, PLEASE call in advance. Dad is 94 and cannot hear well and/or help with accommodations!
At this point, he can't really do very much physical labor at all, only tell you what to do.
Crikey, we can't believe he makes out on his own as it is....
(2025), yup, I'm likely to be completely on the sideline this year.
(2024), amazingly, Nov 6, and I haven't yet hurt my knee this year!
(2023,) I personally stepped in a hole this year. A DEEP One.
On Friday.
The FIRST FREAKIN DAY WE'RE OPEN.
(UPDATE, 12/10/2023, still limping around due to a screwed up right knee... *SIGH* )
Yes, dear friends, you'll find me ACTUALLY BEING SERIOUS on this part of the website, as this is a serious thing.
One of the FEW things I'll be serious about, as it is important to include the handicapped / disabled in our business, and for the holidays.
So, as you would expect, the farm is NOT handicapped / disabled friendly.
This is simply an unfortunate aspect of being a live farm.
We do have hard & flat surfaces where handicapped / disabled folks can get around. Crutches, walkers, wheelchairs, etc.
But honestly, the bulk of the farm is unsuitable for alternate forms of people movement.
You Need to be able to walk with a cane or walker.
THAT being said,
I will personally go to great lengths to transport folks with special needs around the farm, but we can only do this by appointment, and on non-prime hours.
You know, when I'm not running around like a headless chicken. ( If you want to know about the running-around-like-a-headless-chicken days of my youth, or Dads' youth, PLEASE JUST ASK US. Dad especially will go into extreme detail of his chicken raising and terminating days, when the farm was a Summer Resort. Yeah, like Dirty Dancing.... )
Where was I?
Oh, yeah,
We can drive limited mobility folks around in the 4 wheel Mule, as long as they can endure bumpy driving. This is by appointment!
You MUST be able to withstand bumpy rides!
PLEASE get in touch with middle Bob DIRECTLY for this service!!! 908-832-2392
LEAVE a message IN ADVANCE PLEASE! Like DAYS in advance. Seriously!
We allow folks with limited walking ability to park in areas we don't allow parking normally.
You don't need to ask us, really.
If you NEED to park someplace, just DO IT.
Just try to NOT block our access, or other customers' access!
Use your parking / common courtesy brains, and all will be good!
For folks confined to a wheelchair, things get a bit more difficult.
We do NOT have wheelchair conforming bathroom facilities.
We do have a bathroom, on a flat surface, but the wheelchair will NOT fit inside.
Possibly, with family help, a wheelchair bound individual could use the toilet.
Please do call me direct at 908-832-2392 WELL IN ADVANCE for accommodations that we can make!
If you MUST come out TODAY with/as a handicapped / disabled person, you REALLY need to call us at the farm, 908-537-4133, and get in touch with Jennifer or Middle Bob BEFORE you come out, for us to make arrangements. YES, I repeat...
Honestly, this should be done Thanksgiving weekend, or the weekend before Xmas.
The first two weekends in December are almost certainly not going to work for us.
THANK you for your understanding, and all this being said, DO call us and ask us about what we can do to help out with your situation!
And as is usual,
I LOVE that thing, really.... Can you tell?
