Making My Mark

UNIT AIM: A

An introductory project for me to get to know you, your style and interest, develop ideas, creative thinking, lateral thinking, abstract concepts, making and doing.

This project is to teach you to think, have new ideas, problem solve and develop quick working methods and a variety of responses.

TASK:

To create a body of work based on your exploration of an object of your choice that represents you.

Explore a wide variety of media, styles. Look for interesting, exciting personal responses. Make a point of looking at graphic designers an how advertising dictates these commonly seen objects... Or how different artists have explored these different images. ASK what if.. then do it and find out.. make mistakes and learn from the. Be experimental, how far can you go from your original image and still remain some recognisable form?

Explore a wide range of media, try and change it, keep experimenting and do something different. You should experiment with a variety of different papers. Use black and white papers. Try envelopes, old paper, new paper, cartridge, squared, lined, coloured, backing paper, newspaper, craft... Watercolour works best on the right paper. Use plastic and be inventive with a range of materials.

(thinking) At the end of this unit you will learn to:

  • what materials should you select for your ideas/intentions

  • How to develop your ideas

  • Use lateral thinking: (the solving of problems by an indirect and creative approach, typically through viewing the problem in a new and unusual light.)

  • Use abstract thinking (Abstract thinking is the ability to think about objects, principles, and ideas that are not physically present. It is related to symbolic thinking, which uses the substitution of a symbol for an object or idea)

(doing) At the end of the unit you will have DONe:

  • sustain experimentation

  • manipulate a range of skills, techniques and processes.

  • produce high quality work
