Update Regarding Federal Layoffs for Niskayuna's Special Education

Per our BOE liaison, Sarah Tishler, below are notes from the recent BOE meeting regarding the Special Ed cuts at the federal level per our Superintendent, Carl Mummenthey (also available online on the YouTube channel):

Niskayuna has a general fund budget of $116 million; federal funding is in addition to that, and it's $1.3 million. Special education grants is 2/3 of that. That money has been appropriated by Congress and we expect to receive the grants in full (thus far no delays in receiving that money).
Announced layoffs at the Special Education and Civil Rights - Niskayuna's interface with these offices is advisory and technical assistance.
Thankfully we live in a state that has a parallel system - Division of Human Rights. We are well prepared to remedy any issues.
NY state regulations meet or exceed federal requirements/law, so families and students are well protected.
Niskayuna is committed to do right by our special education students and families.
Our commitment to special education students has never been stronger, we will do it in spite of the federal government if necessary.
