– The competent teacher plans and designs instruction based on content area knowledge, diverse student characteristics, student performance data, curriculum goals, and the community context. The teacher plans for ongoing student growth and achievement.
This artifact was a lesson plan that I had to make during my student teaching experience. This is a lesson plan that I actually got to use and see how it would run in a classroom.
This artifact connects to the standard becuase it details how I am going to handle each studetns individual needs. Beyond that, it allows me a way to track student data and how they did during the course of the class.
This artifact was extremely helpful, I got to experiment with different ways to assess my students, as well as being creative in the various ways I planned on getting all of my studetns involved.
Rationale- During the creation of this lesson plan, I was using the Understanding by Design technique. This way of creating a lesson plan is separated into three categories that a teacher should follow while using this. The first is the desired results section where the teacher will set a goal, pose essential questions, list the standards they used, and give knowledge and skills outcomes for the lesson plan. The second stage is deciding who the target audience is, as well as discovering ways to access the students work. Finally, the third stage details the various assessments that the teacher will be using to grade the students on. The activities listed in the third stage will all correlate to the "main idea" that was listed in stage one.
Standard Connection- The assignment I have created relates to the standard in a multitude of ways. For one, the lesson planned I have designed for the perceived unit demonstrates plenty of content knowledge that will lead to hockey enabling a healthy lifestyle. The unit created strives to get the students moving and using their bodies in ways that they may not yet be comfortable with. That way, the students will be placed in an environment where they are forced to try something new, and maybe discover a new sport that they take interest in. By them participating in this unit, the students will be able to grow both mentally and physically, and hopefully pick up a new activity that promotes living healthy. This unit relates to the standard because it deals with teaching a unit in a variety of different ways. The UbD unit requires the teacher to put together a variety of different activities that are all to be taught in a different way so that each student is able to receive all the information multiple times in different ways.
Self-Assessment- Overall, I feel that I did a very good job putting this UbD together. I feel that I had a good understanding of what each of the stages called for an executed on each one in a complete way. This is a unit that I would plan on using, as well as it being something that I feel is important for each student to be able to understand.
