The competent teacher understands the diverse characteristics and abilities of each student and how individuals develop and learn within the context of their social, economic, cultural, linguistic, and academic experiences. The teacher uses these experiences to create instructional opportunities that maximize student learning.
Teaching Strategies Presentation- The video I made on various teaching strategies to further assist the students that need it.
The artifact that I felt needed to be represented to fall under this specific standard was geared towards teaching students with autism at an early elementary education level. My presentation taught the viewer on various strategies that were aimed at helping the teacher better assist those students with autism. I feel it is very important that every child, no matter the circumstance, should receive the best education that is possible. I feel that the presentation I made falls under this standard, and does a great job at showing the viewer what strategies they should use to make this happen.
The importance this artifact has under the standard is that it shows the teacher effective strategies to use while teaching students with autism. Without my presentation, or the many others like it, teachers may be more in the dark as to how to approach this situation, leading to a worse possible outcome for both the teacher and the student. Given that students with autism fall under the wide reaching arms of the term "diverse students" this presentation is directly aimed at diverse students and how to teach them. As for progress towards the standard, I can keep watching the videos that others made and make adjustments to mine to better meet the standard. Although I feel the presentation I made already does a great job of meeting this standard for the reasons previously discussed, there will always be room for improvement.
During the making of this presentation I had to learn a lot of different teaching strategies that made me pick and choose which ones I felt were the cream of the crop. While not every strategy I saw made the video, I learned plenty of various strategies throughout my research that will make it into my future classroom one day. The artifact is very important to me because it allows me to further my development as a teacher. As I was doing my research, I found myself finding out more and more that I did not previously know, which can only further my knowledge and grow me into a better, more effective teacher. As to how this will make it into my classroom in the future, I will be implementing these strategies on a daily basis to allow me to be the best teacher that I can be.
For this artifact, I had to read 2 different books and type about how they described Physical Education. This involved me breaking down both their similarities and their differences.
I feel that that this artifact conects directle to the standard because it goes very deep into diversity and discusses how to handle certain situations while teaching. The main focus of the books were diversity, which relates directly to this standard.
Personally, I am not one to be reading all of the time. This trade book report showed me that their are different ways to learn, and that expanding my horizons to include reading can really go a long way.
